The need for LGBTQIA+ senior programing is critical. LGBTQIA+ seniors find themselves confronting the traditional challenges of aging, while at the same time encountering issues particular to the LGBTQIA+ community. Lacking traditional sources of support and caregiving, a greater likelihood of living alone, higher rates of poverty, and pronounced cultural and social isolation are just some of the realities of the LGBTQIA+ Elder community.

Responsive to these critical concerns, Lambda Living offers programs and services to the LGBTQIA+ elder community throughout Miami-Dade County in a variety of ways:

  • Train those working in fields such as health care and social service organizations serving the elder LGBTQIA+ community in cultural competency and sensitivity;
  • Offer programming that will allow LGBTQIA+ elders the opportunity to gather, make friendships, support each other and learn together; and
  • Provide counseling and case management where needed, both individually and in groups; on-site in its offices and in-home.

IN-PERSON PROGRAMMING

Lambda Living offers a variety of in-person activities, including classes, lunch programs, visits to local attractions, BBQs, happy hours and more…

LAMBDA LIVING ONLINE

Don’t let distance, health or lack of transportation keep you from participating in activities and programs with others.

The Lambda Living Online program was created to provide a virtual option to seniors — especially LGBTQIA+ seniors — to participate in programs and activities in their own homes. No longer is distance or access to transportation an issue. Those who are homebound may join with others to create online opportunities for social interaction and connection.

We offer a variety of live programming, as well as a library of classes which are recorded and archived. Currently, classes include computer literacy, exercise, monthly health lectures, support groups and financial updates, to name just a few.

If you are interested in volunteering your time to present a monthly or weekly class, please contact Cindy Brown at cbrown@jcsfl.org.
